Privacy policy
Sell My Business NZ is committed to protecting the privacy of our clients and the people who use our website. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and the information privacy principles it sets out.
1. The information we collect and how we use it
We only collect personal information that you give us, such as your name, email address, phone number and details about your business or what you are looking to buy, when you fill in a form on this site, request a guide, call us or meet with us.
We use that information to respond to your enquiry, to prepare appraisals and sale documents, to introduce qualified buyers and sellers to each other with your consent, and to send you information about businesses for sale or about selling a business that we think will interest you. If you tell us you no longer want to hear from us, we will stop.
2. Sharing personal information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only where it is necessary to provide our services: with companies that help us run our website, email and customer records; with your professional advisers at your request; and with buyers or sellers once you have agreed to an introduction. Each of these parties may only use your information for the purpose we provided it.
Information about a business for sale is never shared with a prospective buyer until that buyer has been qualified and has signed a confidentiality agreement.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, to protect the integrity of this site, or to assist a lawful investigation.
3. Analytics and advertising
This site may use analytics and advertising tools, including Google Analytics and Google Ads remarketing, that set cookies to measure how the site is used and to show you relevant advertising on other websites. These tools collect information such as pages visited, time on site and the general location of your device. Where you have allowed Google to link your browsing history to your Google account, Google may use that data to build audience lists for advertising across devices. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your Google account settings.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device to remember information between visits. We use them to keep the site working, to understand how it is used and, where enabled, for advertising. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to tell you when one is set. If you disable all cookies, some parts of the site may not work as intended.
5. Access and correction
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. Email us at hello@sellmybusinessnz.co.nz or call 0220776771 and we will respond within 20 working days, as the Privacy Act requires.
6. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires, and then delete or anonymise it.
7. Links to other sites
This site links to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
9. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your information, contact us first and we will do our best to resolve it. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
